The upcoming 2020 Global Wellness Trends report, was released yesterday and one particular trend that caught our attention was Aging Rebranded: Positively Cool

What a perfect opportunity to change the conversation in our society about growing older.

An article in the WSJ reported that Gen Xers (40-55) are now redefining and reinventing the rules of their midlife experience. Their move into middle-age dovetails with the growth of the wellness industry and is now estimated at a $4.5 trillion business, according to the latest data from the Global Wellness Institute.

Approximately 10,000 Baby Boomers will reach retirement age every day from 2011 through 2030. The 65-plus age group has grown by 58 percent over the past 30 years. By 2050, more than one in five Americans will be 65 years old or older according to the Census Bureau.

These Baby Boomers are creating a disruption in the traditional care-centric Senior Living models (senior silos)  and are opting for more robust lifestyle-rich environments to fully live their senior years.

And thank goodness they are!

This Silver Tsunami has its own demands and distinct advantages of what it means to age joyously and this presents an incredible opportunity for the wellness industry to be innovative, creative and intentional in how we can help provide solutions to this growing demographic.

As wellness explorers, our team consciously works with design teams to create environments where sensory experiences, natural elements and human connection are all incorporated into a projects model.

Our goal is to create spaces and experiences that unite mind, body and soul for all age groups.

For the aging wellness communities, we can…

  • Design healthcare fused with hospitality
  • Offer multigenerational, co-working and event planning spaces
  • Create “playgrounds” for older adults for fun, social interaction and movement

People are aging so much better than in prior generations and are wanting to have a better quality of life. Now that’s a trend we can definitely get behind!

“We need to lift our sights, to set our sights on well-being, so that life and health and healthcare can become about making life more wonderful, rather than just less horrible. Beneficence.” – BJ Miller
