The Spa at Four Seasons Tamarindo, Mexico marks the 41st design that Blu Spas Inc has worked on for the brand. The Spa opened in January 2024 and features over 30,000-square feet of indoor and outdoor space, including eight treatment rooms, two of which are created for tandem experiences. Notable design highlights include an outdoor, open air shower connected to each treatment space, as the spa aligns with both the forest and the sea, bringing outstanding views of and elements of nature into every moment.
In fact, a traditional Mexican Temazcal (“house of heat”) ceremony creates a ritual that marks the journey of rebirth, and the narrow pool of water leading from the in-ground cold plunge pool in the garden connects water and fire, symbols for the circle of life.
The Spa’s signature scent of Copal is a wild resin that comes from the sap of native trees in Mexico, similar to frankincense and myrrh. Long ago, copal was used in sweat lodge ceremonies as a way to treat a range of illnesses. Today it is still used as it offers incredible medicinal benefits and is incorporated into the Temazcal, as well as throughout the spa facilities.
Women and men changing rooms include showers, relaxation and quiet lounges, aqua and thermal experiences with scent saunas and steam, and the cold plunge pool located within the red clay zen garden, an outdoor relaxation zone for wellness seekers. The two suites also feature a luxurious private outdoor bath, surrounded by jungle views where visitors can soak in the ambiance of the lush environment. Yoga, meditation, Pilates and group fitness classes are offered. The nail and hair salon, as well as areas around the spa incorporate local stone, carefully crafted to provide more elements of nature and promote sustainability as the rocks were excavated from the site prior to construction.
Swedish, Hot Stone, Deep Tissue, Aromatherapy and Prenatal massages, facials, along with nail and hair services are available. The Spa was designed by LegoRocha and Uribe Krayer with support functional design by Blu Spas Inc, an award-winning design company led by Cary Collier and Doug Chambers. From Blu Spas, Cary Collier and Brian Lombardi started working on the project in 2014. The overall Spa project planning and design included facility area programming and flow; layout diagrams, mark-ups, and drawing and furnishings reviews from all consultants.
Living Earth Crafts tables are featured along with product lines, Coola, Natural Benefits, La Natura, IS Clinical, Hydrafacial and doTerra.
Leo Castro, Director of Golf and Wellness notes “we are so proud to have a locally sourced team of hospitality experts at this property, it means alot to support our community and our guests get to feel the warmth and genuine care from the people who live in this region. It’s a special place.”
Built from the ground up and opened in November 2022, the resort has received the distinct honor of being included as one of Architectural Digest’s 2023 Great Design Hotel Award winners. The resort website explains the concept behind this very special destination,
We are dedicated to the concept of ‘rewilding,’ enabling the Earth’s natural rhythms to flourish and nature to recover its balance. Everything we do is guided by this ethos, and it is our hope that our guests will form a deep connection both to the land and the coastline, and that in doing so they can recover their own balance and leave inspired and energized. - FÉLIX MURILLO GENERAL MANAGER
