Gratitude

The Importance of Gratitude

We’re hearing more frequently about the beneficial connection between gratitude and health, both physical and mental.

Organic Spa Magazine recently published an article on this topic entitled Encourage An Attitude of Gratitude, by Dr. Monisha Vasa, a board certified General and Addiction Psychiatrist and partner of the Mindful Healing Center. Dr. Vasa succinctly noted that

One of the most important skills for well-being is that of gratitude.

Gratitude + Wellness

To encourage this catalyst of well-being, we take this opportunity to express our gratitude to some of the leaders who inspire our spa and wellness industry and who foster a global culture of health, wellness and gratitude:

Wellness For Cancer

The Global Wellness Summit (GWS) a respected leader in global wellness research, recently published Wellness Trends: Global Summit Identifies the Top 10. From this list of 2016 trends, we are inspired by their discussion entitled From Wellness for the Wealthy Few to the Democratization of Wellness.

Putting this in specific context, forty percent of people will have some type of cancer in their lifetime. The spa and wellness industries have a unique opportunity to embrace, retrain and minimize the fear of, and myths about, treating those with the “Big C.”

Blu Spas Senior Consultant Lisa Henry Jacobs, a cancer survivor, stresses the importance of spas recognizing the special needs of the individuals they serve and being responsible and responsive to the well-being of the whole person.

The spa experience can offer cancer patients, survivors and caregivers a chance to de-stress and heal, but very few spas have trained their staff how to support clients who have had or are healing from cancer.

Wellness for Cancer is an educational program for spas and wellness facilities that are looking to increase their level of comfort and confidence in delivering safe and nurturing services to clients who have experienced cancer. Check out Wellness for Cancer’s Executive Director Julie Bach’s video “Finding Meaning Through Cancer” to learn about this inspiring organization and how your spa can be a part of it.

For all our spa and wellness friends in and near San Diego, please consider attending The Spa Connection Event, with a presentation by Julie Bach on February 26. Blu Spas Doug Chambers, Principal and Kim Collier, Operations & Education, will be in attendance, and hope to see you there!

Be Happy – Be Grateful

For a thought-provoking discussion on the relationship between gratitude and happiness, check out David Steindl-Rast’s TED talk, “Want to be happy? Be grateful.”

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” – John F. Kennedy
